Engaging, riveting, sad and humorous
; demanding the
audience to participate both live and while listening to their
albums; Slim Cessna's Auto Club has been branded with every
musical description possible. This seems fitting, as SCAC
describes their music as American (Is that not what America is and has
been, a mixture of every one and thing resulting in something
new?); and after a decade of working and living as SCAC, they
have created their own genre.
The instruments are drums, upright bass, pedal steel, banjos, piano,
guitar, vocals and stories. They have recorded critically
acclaimed albums (Village Voice, Denver Post, San Francisco Chronicle)
on Jello Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles label. Spin
Magazine and No Depression have described them as the best live band in
Members of the Slim Cessna’s Auto Club:
Gregory (nephew of Ordy Garrison)
The songs are each thoughtfully crafted with
unique arrangements, executed by superb musicianship, then fully
realized through original, insightful and intelligent lyrics.
With two of the most charismatic frontmen around (Westword) and four
accomplished musicians (Wovenhand, Delta 72, 16Horsepower), SCAC is the
past, present and future of American music.

Slim Cessna's Auto Club is a country music band
formed in 1993 in Denver, Colorado. The constant in the band has been
Slim Cessna, formerly a member of The Denver Gentlemen along with David
Eugene Edwards and Jeffery-Paul of 16 Horsepower.
Their music includes elements of country blues, Southern gospel, and
other forms loosely grouped as Americana or alternative country. The
Auto Club is sometimes labeled "country gothic" due to the
juxtaposition of apocalyptic religious imagery with stories of alcohol,
violence, and relationships gone awry. Jay Munly (often credited as
"Munly") is also a key member of the current lineup of the band. In
addition to contributing songwriting, vocals, and banjo, he also serves
as a sidekick to Cessna on stage.
Other current and/or former members (in no particular order) include
Rev. Dwight Pentacost, Ordy Garrison, Shane Trost, John Rumley (who
also crafted many of the stringed instruments used), Jon Killough (who
also did the artwork for the 2005 live CD "Jesus Let Me Down",) Whiff
Cessna, Caleb Roberts, Frank Hauser Jr., Judithann, Rev. Adam Glasseye,
Tim Maher and Danny Pants (aka Daniel Grandbois).
In March 2008, the band released their fifth studio album, titled
Cipher, on Alternative Tentacles Records. Cipher was recorded and
produced by Robert Ferbrache in Westminster, Colorado.

"For years, the Auto Club has been considered the best live band in
Denver. Hell, they might be the best band in America as well!"
